Why snap-safe locks?
Lock snapping is one of the most common ways burglars break into homes. In fact, according to Ultion®, 85% of break-ins are by lock snapping. You've worked hard to turn your house into a home, so don't make it easy for someone to make their way in.
What is lock snapping?
Lock snapping is pretty straightforward - it's snapping the lock which should be there to stop intruders from easily entering your home. Thieves specifically target the weak point on the lock which is in the middle of the cylinder; if this snaps, the rest of the lock is useless and thieves can easily and quietly make their way in.
The worrying thing with lock snapping is it's a lot easier to do than you may have expected:

But there's a way to prevent this. Snap-safe locks.
What are snap-safe locks?
Snap-safe locks are high security euro lock cylinders designed and tested to stop thieves from breaking the lock into two pieces. They have sacrificial sections which means if a burglar snaps the front of the lock, then the locking mechanism remains protected and intact buried inside the door. This allows the door to remain locked and protected and keeps the would-be burglar on the outside of your house.
You may hear these being referred to as snap-proof locks. Given the front of the lock is designed to snap under attack and protect the locking mechanism inside the door, we prefer to call them snap-safe locks.
Why fit snap-safe locks then?
Apart from the obvious, snap-safe locks enhance the security of your doors, helping protect your home against lock related break-ins. On top of this, approved high security locks could help reduce your insurance premium, though you'd need to speak to your insurer about this for exact details and how they impact your policy and/or premiums.
